The puppeteer

I've often hoped P would inherit my passion for puppets, marionettes in particular. We've lucked upon a number of unbelievable marionette performances at street fairs and Central Park, but to grow an obsession requires regular fertilization:) And lo and behold, we've moved to a neighborhood with a puppet theater just down the street.

The shows are definitely geared for children, lacking some of the finesse of the dedicated street performers, but perfect for P. We just went to the Hansel and Gretel performance last month and happened upon a book about puppets the next day at a stoop sale. I love it when life strews for us...

And P took the bait and ran with it. Already adept at plot formation and directing;) he had merely lacked the puppet inspiration and instruction. After reading the book, twice, he reclaimed his long ignored finger puppets, scaled his castle and hid behind the new "stage" while the puppets did their thing. He really wanted to see how it all looked and requested that, in addition to BB and I playing the part of audience and yelling "Encore! Encore!", that I also video the show.

Still piqued by puppets the next day, he wanted a BB marionette. His newly heightened, creative problem solving skills helped him conjure quite the contraption. He was thrilled that his endeavor included a death vice for Baby Brother's ears . After a few innocent, marionette waves, his puppeteering skills swerved towards perversion. And after the torture ran its course, he skipped over and popped Baby Brother's magnetized clip to the side of the fridge, saying, "Awight Baby Bwover, I"m all done now and gonna hang you up!"

BB spent the next few hours on the fridge. P would dutifully climb up his ladder and show/tell him anything of importance that popped up. Like, say, how much fun it is to look at yourself in a magnified mirror :)
