Maawage is what bwings us togevew...

(E shows P the trains during the reception)

Seth and Alicia's wedding, on paper, sounded intimidating. Wedding in one location, reception a couple of hours later in a location a couple hours drive away. Imminent thunderstorms, 100 degree temperatures, and did I mention the ceremony was to be outdoors?

Off paper, it was one of the most lovely weddings Ever. The rain came in the middle of the night, cooling Kansas down and leaving the Arboretum unbelievably green and thunderstorm free. The dresses and flowers were beautiful, the setting ideal, and the ceremony amazingly personal and perfect. At the reception they showed a video of their lives that had me in tears and even mellowed little P.

I was thrilled this was P's introduction to the idea of "weddings." It seemed everything was done not with just an eye to beauty but an additional eye focused on what was True for the bride and groom. Enchanting And Personal. And while sweatpants (his first choice in wedding attire) weren't quite appropriate, we didn't have to stress about irritable guests and dirty looks. Everyone was so sweet and supportive and happy. No one seemed to care about his untucked shirt or upturned collar or defiant absence of dress shoes (he agreed to black converse featuring dragons, saying black dress shoes "aren't cool.")

Ever excited to chat with family, so many people at once had P a bit overwhelmed and hiding in my hem for most of the day. But he eventually caught the champagne vibe at the reception and was bubble popping with the best of them, even getting so revved up that he happily grabbed the Mother of the Bride's hand and wandered away with her into the crowd. Slowwwwww to transition, but he eventually gets there :)

As we drove to Colorado the next day P told us how much he had enjoyed Seth and Alicia's wedding. And he already has plans for his. "Mama," he said to me, " I just want to marry you. Ok?" So I'm saving this blog for his teen years....
