Ahh-ahh Kansas

P is a toy boy. Not having mastered the zen state of un-attachment, he's passionate about his belongings. My constant search for such a zen state :) was thrilled when he reported that the thing he was most excited to see in Kansas was... all of his family. Awww.

While he frequently waxes poetic about his John Deere or Grandpapa's trucks, all he talked about in the plane was getting to see his grandparents. And as my father drove us home from the airport P looked at him with a grin and said "I'm really glad to see you, Gramps. You glad to see me?" Then, he proceeded to count the minutes by stoplight until he saw my mom. As he entered their house and saw Grams, he dropped to the floor, covered his head and said in his alter-ego voice "I can't Believe this. This. is. just. CRAaazy." Then, after zooming around their house like a tornado he proceeded to beg for Grandpapa. "When can I see Grandpapa???"

So off we went to the Schultz's. E's family was playing frisbee outside and swarmed around P like a big blanket of love. At the end of the evening he didn't want to leave, despite his droopy, red eyes, requesting "Five, no, Four! Four more minutes Mama."

That being said, he's also had a blast with the luxuries that midwestern space affords. Large dinosaurs, his John Deere, a tire swing that has no line of children behind it (and therefore no guilt spinning around it) and all of the big back-hoes a Brooklyn apartment couldn't comfortably hold. But, most of all, the kid is Digging his family.
