We had no idea if this house would have grass or not when we rented it. P was thrilled when he ran out the back door and found a soft patch of green, complete with clover, and gushed, "Now I have a real yard." Apparently, grape vines and raspberry bushes only count if there is appropriate ground cover close by...
This weekend we bought a reel mower off Craig'slist. P's criteria: that it not be too red (?) and that it be a bit rusty.... Not exactly our criteria, but as long as "sharp blades" fit in there, we didn't really care.
And good thing the child chose, as he has already mowed the grass patch 3 or 4 times a day, every day, since the purchase. We'll be eating lunch and he'll pop off his stool saying, "Bye, I'm going out to mow the lawn..."
Geez they grow up fast ;)

Well that can be added to the pros of Portland... If we move there, we have a lawn mower (i.e. P ;)
